SAG strike: Actors join Hollywood screenwriters on strike line
Jason Sudeikis, Susan Sarandon and thousands of other actors have joined screenwriters in Hollywood's biggest strike in more than 60 years.
During the suspension period, the actor will not appear in the film and will not promote the film.
Major films in production, such as Avatar and Gladiator sequels, may be affected by the shutdown.
The actors join writers who resigned in May over concerns about pay, working conditions and the industry's use of artificial intelligence (AI).
HBO's "Succession" star Brian Cox told the BBC that the strike could last "until the end of the year."
"The whole streaming thing has changed the paradigm," the Scotland star told the BBC Newscast.
"They want to freeze us and put us down because we can make a huge profit from streaming and we don't want to share that with the writers and performers."
Negotiations for new contracts with studios and streaming giants broke down on Thursday, with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) accusing the Alliance of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP) of an "unwillingness to deliver fair deals."
About 160,000 anchors walked off the job at midnight to join the 11,500 members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) who walked out on May 2.
By noon Friday, union members and supporters rallied outside the offices of major studios and streaming services in Los Angeles, New York and other cities.
The demo is backed by big names in the film and television industry, including the lead in the new film Oppenheimer, who stepped out on the red carpet Thursday night.

The unions want studios and broadcasters to be better compensated, higher royalties, more contributions to pensions and health insurance, and protections against the use of artificial intelligence in the industry.
Titles that may be affected include sequels to the Avatar, Deadpool, and Gladiator franchises.
