Sony/Wayfarer Studios is coming to a close as it continues to thrive, surpassing $200 million at the worldwide box office.
The Blake Lively-starring film, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, has grossed $204.4 million worldwide,
according to Wednesday’s figures, with $106.7 million coming from the United States and $97.7 million from international box office. Italy bowed Wednesday,
while China, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea and Japan are still gearing up. It’s the year’s biggest female-led event, and the world’s biggest. It has surpassed the combined worldwide box office of other female-led films, including “Lost City,” “The Girl on the Train” and “The Crawfish Song.”
Then comes the big world. It’s invested $80 million but has paid out only 68% of its foreign footprint.
Deadpool vs. Wolverine, starring Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds, flopped after two weeks, leaving the market starving for adult films for women.
The top 10 foreign markets are: United Kingdom ($17.2 million), Australia ($10.1 million), Mexico ($8.4 million), Brazil ($7 million), Germany ($6.5 million), Spain ($4.2 million), France ($3.2 million), Netherlands ($3.0 million), Saudi Arabia ($2.4 million) and Sweden ($2.3 million).
