Unlucky end for Hollywood stars Reynolds, McElhenney and Jackman as Wrexham lose league opener
WREXHAM, Wales (AP) - Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Hugh Jackman saw an eight-goal thriller in misery for the Hollywood stars as they lost their first Premier League game on Saturday.
Hosts Wrexham were beaten 5-3 by MK Dons at the Racecourse Ground in the opening round of their fourth round tie.
Co-owners Reynolds and McElhenney have made Wrexham one of the most talked about clubs in England after buying the successful club in 2021 for $2.5 million and becoming the subject of a documentary on the wall. - titled Welcome to Wrexham - follows the journey of two actors managing a team as they learn the ropes of owning a sports club.
Wrexham are playing in the Football League, three divisions outside the Premier League, for the first time in 15 years after being promoted from the National League in April.
Wrexham's profile has risen so much that the team played Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester United in the US last month.
Wrexham and Dons were the two teams of three months ago, with the visitors quickly showing their quality by scoring twice 10 minutes into the game. Jacob Mendy went over from the penalty spot before half-time as Wrexham celebrated their first EFL goal in 5,572 days.
Wrexham are without star striker Paul Mullin and new signing James McClean.
