Selena Gomez opens up about her huge Instagram following, her relationship with fans and more in a new interview.
Selena Gomez, 31, opened up about what it's like to be the most followed woman on Instagram and what it's like to be a fan favorite as she opened up about her success with Universal Music Group and Thrive Global. & Health Conference on September 19th.
"It can be a little heavy," Selena said at the panel, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The "I'm Missing You Loving Me" singer, who has more than 400 million Instagram followers, continued: "I feel for people and to be honest, it keeps me in check."
"I can get a little emotional and talk to young men, women who are going through a breakup or going through chemo — it's not just about me, and I totally understand," Selena said. "I will always respect him. However, it is a big responsibility. Quite scary."
Selena explained on the panel that she's "not worried" about her adorable Instagram status. The former Disney Channel star said that his mission in the social network is to help others, not to record how many people are on his list of followers.
"I'm grateful for the platform and I want to continue to use it for whatever I can, but it's just a number," Selena said.

"It's been a long time coming, but I don't know if it's a good idea," he told THR about the project. "At the end of the day, I knew I wanted to be an actress one day, maybe just part time, and I didn't know it would jeopardize everything in my life. I didn't know what I was doing to let people into my life. Then when it out ... I had no choice at that time. I was relieved. I felt like a huge weight had been lifted. I felt like I was about to say something that I had been holding back for years."
Selena says she's happy with how Mind & Me turned out, and while it was "hard" to watch, she doesn't want to go through the same ordeal again. "I won't see it again, but I'm proud. I couldn't make the people who made it happier for me," said the founder of Rare Beauty.
