"It started to affect me mentally. It was so hot": Johnny Depp went through hell to create his iconic role, which earned him more than $ 265 million.
Johnny Depp has had many roles that have made him famous, but not as famous as Captain Jack Sparrow. One of the many reasons the franchise has lasted so long is because of how much spirit he brought to the character. Despite many other roles in his impressive list, Pirates of the Caribbean stands out the most.
Although he is no longer a part of the franchise, it seems safe that it is dead and he is gone. The fans' devotion to him and the life he brings to the franchise is incredible. Although the character should be portrayed differently, Depp's intervention changed everything.
Johnny Depp is ready to go through anything for the role of Captain Jack Sparrow
Johnny Depp once revealed that to get the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, he first had to understand who his character was. Pirates were originally supposed to be very ordinary people who would go on adventures, save the day, and eventually take the girl away. The actor even identified Ant as a washer.
"I saw different aspects of the character, and I saw that this man has been on the high seas most of his life, so he treated our brains with an irresistible warmth," said Depp. "So I cranked up the sauna to 1,000 degrees and sat there until it started to take a mental toll. The heat was like my brain."
Depp added that he went to the sauna to see what suited his character. In the sauna, he tried to create the conditions that pirates would be exposed to every day. Thus, the hero pushed the actor's mind with extreme heat and unbearable pressure.
Johnny Depp perfected his character because of his children
Johnny Depp knew he had to test his ideas to better understand his character. One way to find this out is to practice in front of their children. When playing with them, he would use different sounds and wait for their reaction.
Depp added: "I started secretly trying out the character [with my kids]. My daughter and I were playing with Barbies, and I tried this sound, and she was just like, 'Stop.'"
Then she keeps the things her kids like and tries to change the things they don't like. It helped him a lot. Whether it's where he got inspiration or help from his kids, they all helped him bring one of his greatest characters to life.
